IT’S NICE TO MEET YOU
I'm a New England wedding and portrait photographer living in the quaint seaside town of Tiverton, Rhode Island with my husband Andrew and our 100 lb. lap dog, Moose, and new pup Whiskey. Born & raised in Virginia, I made my way up to New England by way of sailing adventures and the love of my life in 2012.
In 2013 I took my last trip down to the Caribbean as a Charter Boat Captain, purchased my photography gear and Maria Burton Photography was born! Just one year later Andrew and I got married on Rose Island in Newport Harbor, surrounded by friends & family on beautiful Narragansett Bay. It was one of the most magical days of my life and continues to be my inspiration and passion for capturing each and every one of my client's wedding days!
Andrew and I are both entrepreneurs, artists, and visionaries. We've spent the last 5 years renovating our 1906 charmer of a house, room by room, with our own 4 hands. I have learned the art of hanging sheetrock, wiring outlets, installing tile, and living through a dusty 5 year renovation! Now that the house is nearing completion, you can find me most winter nights in a hot bath with a cheese platter, a glass of Pinot Noir, and a good book. In the summer I trade that Pinot Noir for a Margarita, flip flops & a night on our boat!

Where I grew up in Virginia, we had crab fests and like New England's lobster boils, they involved ice cold beers, lots of warm butter and good conversation with friends + family. Now living in New England, and owning a lobster boat myself, I can say that Lobster Boils are my favorite way to ring in the summer.

Three years ago I was not an animal person. When my husband insisted that we get a dog, I insisted that he would have to be an outside dog & if he came in the house, he'd only be allowed in the kitchen. Three years later Moose and Whiskey sleep in our bed...and I couldn't imagine my life without these 100 lb lap dogs.

My husband and I love old things. Cars, boats, houses, furniture...you name it, we either own it or go in the search for it. Winter is my favorite season to scour the antique stores across New England for the perfect pieces for our home.

My father instilled in me at a young age a love for travel and getting outside your comfort zone. The travel bug is real in my world. Which is why I've lived in a different country, explored over 20 countries, and spent a month long honeymoon backpacking through Vietnam + Thailand. Iceland and Italy are next on my list!

OUR STORY:
THE REASON WHY
we do what we do
I am a storyteller. And I like to think that my images tell someone's story, long after the beginning, maybe in the middle, but far from the end. As a small child I coveted pictures, constantly looking through family albums and asking about all the memories that preceded me. As I grew older, I started documenting my own life through my lens, placing prints in hand-selected frames, and even putting together elaborate scrapbooks. I was adamant about preserving the memories, organizing negatives (so old!) and having something to look back on to remember the best of times. I love what I do and feel so lucky to be able to capture your story.
