As your wedding photographer, I want to do more than just capture beautiful images—I want to help you experience a day that feels joyful, relaxed, and true to you. A thoughtful timeline is key to that. Over the years, I’ve found that the best wedding days aren’t the ones packed to the brim—they’re the ones with intention, flow, and just enough space for the unplanned magic.
So, how do we make that happen? We build an intentional wedding photography timeline.
About 2–3 months before your wedding, I’ll send you a detailed questionnaire. This helps me understand what moments and people matter most to you, any family dynamics to be mindful of, and the logistical puzzle pieces (like getting-ready locations and transportation).
Once I have all those details, we’ll hop on a phone call to build your custom wedding photography timeline. We’ll create a one-page plan that becomes my blueprint for your day—clear, flexible, and tailored to you.
1. First Look vs. No First Look
Whether you choose to see each other before the ceremony or keep it traditional, I’ll help you weigh the pros and cons for timing, lighting, and flow. Both choices can be beautiful—we just need to plan around whichever one fits you best.
2. Sunset Time
Golden hour is a magical time for portraits. I always check the sunset time for your date and location so we can carve out space for dreamy, romantic light (even if it’s just 15 minutes!). Sometimes we have to be flexible for this depending on the day’s weather. It’s important to allow enough time and not interfere with the reception formalities.
3. Weather
We always hope for clear skies, but I build backup plans just in case—covered porches, indoor options, extra umbrellas—we’ll be ready for anything.
4. Transportation Logistics
If you’re moving between venues or getting-ready locations, we’ll account for travel time and a little buffer. It’s always better to arrive a few minutes early and breathe than feel rushed.
5. Hair + Makeup Timing
This is the most common area where things run late. I always recommend finishing hair and makeup at least 30–45 minutes before you actually need to be dressed, so you have time to touch up, eat a snack, or just take a breath. Communication is KEY with your hair + makeup team.
6. Built-in Buffer Time
Someone always forgets a tie. Or a bouquet goes missing. Or Uncle Joe wanders off. That’s life! I pad the timeline with wiggle room, so little hiccups don’t throw off the whole day.
I never want your wedding to feel like a photoshoot with a party tacked on. My goal is to create a seamless experience—one where photos naturally unfold within the rhythm of your day. Yes, we’ll carve out time for portraits, but we’ll also make sure you have space to be there: to hold hands, sip champagne, laugh with friends, and sneak in quiet moments with your new spouse.
Every couple, every wedding, every timeline is different—and that’s what makes this part so special. With a bit of planning and a lot of heart, we’ll build a day that feels beautifully you.
If you’re currently in the planning process and feeling overwhelmed by the timing, I’d love to help. Reach out anytime—I’m just a phone call (or coffee date) away.
