nautical engagement session

KATE + BRANDON | September 2019 | Jamestown, Rhode Island

I met Kate and Brandon through mutual sailing friends probably 5 years ago.  We’ve gotten to know each other over the years through regattas and a few dark ‘n stormies at happy hour!  These two live and breathe the sailing lifestyle.  When we were deciding on their engagement session details, it was a no brainer to do a nautical engagement session!

Brandon is the lead technician for Jamestown Boatyard and Kate is the founder of a multimedia company, Rising T Media, for the marine industry. You can say that they are quite the nautical couple. Brandon and Kate love being out on their sailboat “Persistence” during the summer. Their adorable pup “Scruffy” is the best first mate and takes his job very seriously.  In between working all summer and keeping other people’s boats afloat, Kate and Brandon do a LOT of summer sailing themselves. They love taking “Persistence” to Block Island and around Narragansett on adventures. You can follow along on their blog “Persistence Adventures”.

We picked a beautiful afternoon in September to take “Persistence” out and get these two in action doing what they love. Their nautical engagement session is one of my favorites to date. We popped champagne, sailed past Castle Hill Lighthouse, and watched Scruffy take charge on the dinghy. I even tested out my balancing skills and got into the dinghy for some full boat photos of Kate and Brandon sailing by. These images ooze joy and happiness! It’s truly my favorite thing to see a couple in love and doing what they love together.

Kate and Brandon’s August 1, 2020 wedding has taken a bit of a “tack” from the original course. Instead of a big party at Fort Getty, these two are tying the knot aboard their boat and celebrating with a backyard party at their NEW house! I have a feeling that their nautical engagement session was just the pre-cursor for an even cooler nautical wedding day! Cannot wait to celebrate these two in August!
