If you’re planning an Old Saybrook CT wedding, Saybrook Point Resort & Marina offers a setting that feels like a true getaway. Julia and Ryan were drawn to its relaxed, resort-style atmosphere—just far enough from the hustle (and competitive wedding scene) of Rhode Island to slow things down and enjoy the weekend.
Their June 7, 2024 wedding marked something special. It was their 11-year anniversary to the day. As high school sweethearts, their celebration felt full circle. They stood surrounded by the same people who had watched their story unfold.
What truly sold Julia and Ryan on their Old Saybrook CT wedding was the on-site experience. Saybrook Point’s guesthouses—Tall Tales and Three Stories—created the perfect home base.
Julia, a real estate professional with a love for design and architecture, fell for the pink Victorian-style homes right away. The spaces felt comfortable and elevated. They also gave us beautiful backdrops for photos. Each house includes a full kitchen, which came in handy with a chef in the wedding party (it pays to be friends with a chef).
The morning felt easy and slow. Everyone gathered for breakfast before getting ready. Light-filled, well-styled rooms gave us endless photo opportunities.
Julia and Ryan shared an emotional first look on the front porch. Yes, Ryan cried. We moved straight into portraits in front of the guesthouses’ iconic facades.
Julia took a hands-on approach to every detail of their Old Saybrook CT wedding. She leaned into a blue and white chinoiserie palette layered with vibrant pink and orange florals. The result felt bold, high spring, and full of personality.
She sourced many of the design elements herself. Antique vases and jars filled the tables. A gold pagoda welcome mirror, customized with a decal, became a standout piece. A thrifted blue and white garden stool completed the look.
With a background in graphic design, Julia also created the invitation suite herself. She carried that vision through every detail. Each table setting and piece of signage felt intentional and layered.
Cocktail hour highlighted even more of her creativity. Guests found their seats through a custom display of hand-painted oyster shell escort cards. A personalized cornhole set added a fun touch. The “Bride vs. Groom” game kept guests engaged and laughing.
One of the biggest advantages of this Old Saybrook CT wedding was its simplicity. Everything happened in one place. No transportation. No tight timeline. Just a short walk from the guesthouses to the marina.
We captured portraits along the docks with boats drifting in the background. The Saybrook Point lighthouse anchored many of the shots. The ceremony at Compass Rose overlooked the marina. Personal and heartfelt, their vows told the story of their years together.
Guests sent them off with streamers as Earth, Wind & Fire played. It was pure joy.
Cocktail hour flowed between the outdoor deck and glass-enclosed pergola. Guests moved easily between spaces. A heavy stream of passed hors d’oeuvres kept everyone circulating.
Inside, the ballroom carried the design forward. Blue and white details layered with vibrant florals. The head table featured a runner-style mix of arrangements and collected pieces. Guest tables complemented the look without feeling too uniform.
A brief summer shower rolled through just after cocktail hour, lasting only minutes. Then came something unforgettable. A rainbow stretched across the marina, right where the Connecticut River meets the sea.
We stepped outside for golden hour portraits. The light, the setting, the moment—it all came together.
Julia changed into a fully beaded mini dress inspired by her chinoiserie palette. The dance floor filled quickly and stayed full. Later into the evening, a groomsman split his pants-always a sign of a good party!
Throughout the night, Julia and Ryan kept looking around in awe. The day felt unmistakably them. Every detail reflected their style and story. After 11 years together, celebrating with lifelong friends and family made it feel completely full circle.
